Memorial Weekend: Part 1 - The Wedding

Out of order, chronologically, but in order of importance.

This past weekend was a long weekend for me. I had Friday-Monday off of work! It was wonderful. The Boy™ and I drove up to Mom's on Friday, then we all drove to Oswego on Saturday for Cousin Fred's wedding. The Boy™ and I stayed in a great hotel in Oswego (thanks, Aunt Anita!) until Monday before driving back home. Today: picture highlights from the wedding. Coming soon: picture highlights from the rest of the weekend.

Exhale

At Mom's. On vacation until Tuesday. Off to Oswego tomorrow for Fred's wedding. Happy to have the whole weekend and then some off. Turning my brain off as much as possible for the next three days.

So much so, I may have messed up this sock I am knitting.

But I am not going to think about it tonight. I'm going to watch Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and go to bed early. I'll figure it out in the car on the way to the wedding tomorrow.

Stuff That's Happening

Things are alright here. I'm still alive. Just busy and feeling a little under the weather. These allergies (or whatever it is) are killing me. I'm fairly certain it's not swine flu, so you don't have to worry.

I'm waiting to hear back from the doctor's office about an appointment to see an allergist. This whole thing has been a giant waiting game for me. First wait (a week) for the doctor to make the referral. Then wait for the woman at the referral desk to call the allergist and make the appointment. Now I'm waiting to hear back about when the actual appointment is. I'm pretty sure it won't be any time soon, either. It never is with specialists.

The job still sucks. Sucking beyond belief right now. I almost quit about four times last week. BossWoman can't quite get it into her head that Administrative Staff does not equal Professional Cleaning Staff. Not only should we NOT be cleaning the toilets (among all the rest of the cleaning she has us doing,) we are not going to be able to get it as spotless as she wants with Clorox wipes and Swiffer sweepers. She has delusions she needs to get over.

I have a potential new thing in the works that I'm trying really hard not to talk too much about in case I jinx it. With any luck, I'll know for sure by next week, in which case, I'll be shouting about it from the rooftops. I'll keep ya'll posted.

This weekend, The Boy™ and I are going to NY for Cousin Fred's wedding. Stars have aligned to not only give me Friday through Monday off, but we are also getting a room at the hotel where all of the out of town guests are staying for Saturday night. This happily works out, as our anniversary is Sunday. So, we're planning a fun weekend away from PA for our anniversary.

The long weekend will be the last days off for me for 26 days in a row. Blarg. End of year performances are coming up. I won't have another day off until June 21. Well, except for the bit where I go back to NY when Sister has the baby. But I don't know exactly when that will be. Since she's due on the 16th, I hope for her sake she'll have it before the 21st.

Pictures from the weekend (hopefully) to come. And cross your fingers for me for next week that the news is good and works out in my favor.

Things Are Better

Like I said. I just had to get through Friday and things would be better. It is Saturday now and things are better. Some of the things that were stressing me out before are no longer quite so stressful. So at least I can sleep a little now, which helps.

The back pain is getting better. I've been doing the stretches I got from the physical therapist. I ought to have been doing them even though I was feeling better. Looks like this is now part of my daily routine, pain or no pain. Maybe I'll start shopping around for yoga DVDs to do in the morning before work. Any suggestions?

The Boy™ and I went to see the new Star Trek movie today. It was much better than I expected. I'm not really a huge fan of Star Trek movies. Or really any movie based on TV shows. But this one was really good. I recommend it if you're a fan of the show.

Anxiety

Today has been a rough day. I'm having some anxiety about various things I'd rather not get into. A bunch of small things I'd be able to handle individually are all happening at once and I'm having trouble dealing with them altogether. If I can get through today, I'll be fine (assuming none of those things blow up and destroy my universe.)

I'm just trying to put one foot in front of the other and get through the day with as little fuss as possible. Don't expect much from me right now.

More of the Same

Remember how I hurt my back about a month ago? I was started to feel better, going back to the gym and everything. Especially since Circus and B have gotten memberships to the YMCA along with me. We have great plans to work out together and everything.

Well, yeah. Guess again. I think spending all day on my feet at the Sheep and Wool Festival screwed up my back again. I am in AGONY today. I can't do anything without massive amounts of pain in my lower back. It hurts to stand, to walk, to sit, to lay down. To do anything. I've been doing the stretches and exercises the Physical Therapist gave me. They might be helping, I can't tell yet.

I'm going to call the Physical Therapist in the morning and try to get back in to see her. This is ridiculous, though. I can't have my back going out every time I have a day I have to be on my feet for more than three hours.

In other, random health news: I saw the doctor yet again about my ears. My ongoing problem with the pain in my Eustachian tubes (the only good thing that has come of this so far is that I have learned to spell Eustachian tubes.) The pain I have been dealing with all winter.
The doctor has me on new allergy pills (Singular and Allegra.) It is helping a bit with my allergies - my nose is less stuffy and my eyes are less goopy. But my ears don't hurt any less and the post nasal drip is still driving me nuts. He says if it's not better by Monday, to let him know and he'll write me a referral to the Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist.
The drawback to this is that the closest Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist that accepts our insurance is an hour away. Why is health care so screwed up in this country?

Wow, what a boring post for you guys to read. No pictures and me whining about my various health aliments. Something more exciting next time, I promise.

Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival

On Saturday, Becca and I went to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. We left on a bus with about 25 other women at 6:45 in the morning and arrived back at about 10:00 at night. We had tons of fun. I've never seen so many sheep or so much yarn in my life! I've been saving for months to have money to spend at this thing and it was totally worth it. I spent a total of $200. Mostly on yarn. I bought lemonade to have with lunch (packed a sandwich,) honey for The Boy™ and dinner on the way home. We're definitely planning to go again next year.

Sheep pictures:

This one is a little blurry, but if you look closely, you can see he has four horns! He was quite the grumpy thing, too.

Here's Becca petting a six month old lamb. He was really cute.
