We're Geeks!

(You're shocked that I'm blogging twice in one night, I know!)

I just had to share what geeks my cousins and I are. We spent half an hour watching the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode of Family Guy, commenting about it on Twitter.

I don't know about Fred and Pete, but I was Tweeting from my iPod.

We're such geeks.

Picture Dump (Part Three)

Here they are, finally. I've spent today at home, relaxing (as well as I can.) These are the ones that were already edited, just waiting to be blogged about. I think there are some more that are suitable (read: interesting) for viewing. If there are, I'll dump them on later. If not, this will be the last picture dump.
The back isn't any better, if you're wondering. I'm just sort of plugging along, trying to make the best of things.

This guy is reading a newspaper in front of a sculpture called Black Lightning (if I remember correctly) near the Sci Fi Museum. I thought the sculpture was cool and the guy sitting there was pretty neat too.

At the Sci Fi Museum: The Boy™ reads the bus schedule to get us back to the hotel.

In Seattle, on the way to the bus stop, I took this picture for Beebe.

Random statue on the University of Washington campus. I'm sure it has some kind of meaning or story behind it. I didn't stop long enough to find out what.

The techie geek in me had to take a picture of this neat building at the University of Washington.

This is the library at the University of Washington. Silly Punk says it looks like the Great Hall from Harry Potter. What do you think?

These are the Ravens suspended from the ceiling in the library. They're neat.

There you have it. More pictures. Nearly a month after the vacation. I'm a bad blogger. I'm sorry.

Now I'm off to look for sock patterns on Ravelry. Don't ask if I'm ever going to post any knitting pictures again. That would imply finishing something sometime soon. *enter hysterical laughter here*

Still in Pain

I haven't posted the rest of the pictures yet because I'm still having
a hard time sitting (or standing or anything else for that matter) for
any length of time. My back and hips are still hurting. I feel like a
big whiney baby, but as Mom says, it is what it is.

I start physical therapy next Friday. Let's hope it helps.

Not Yet

I still have at least one more picture dump for you. I haven't gotten to it yet, because I'm pretty miserable at the moment. I seem to have hurt my back. Don't ask how I did it, I have no idea. All I know is that I am in pain. I went to the doctor this morning. He said there is some inflammation in my lower back. He nicely cracked it for me, gave me some Naproxen and told me if it doesn't feel better in a week, he'll send me to physical therapy.

So, I'm trying to take it easy. I'll get around to the rest of the pictures eventually, I promise. As soon as I'm feeling a little more comfortable.

Random Thoughts From Work

I know I said I'd post more pictures and I know I ought to be working
(since I am at work and all,) but I have to get this off my chest first.

I don't think I should have to order lunch for BossWoman and her
daughter if I'm not included in the lunch order.

Am I wrong?

Picture Dump (Part Two)

I'll start with some more glass sculptures from outside the Tacoma Glass Museum.

And continue with some random pictures from Pike's Place Market:

Then move on to two pictures of World's End friends (Snazzy and Smalltown.)

And then sneak in two pictures I took at museums (I know, I'm a bad girl.) The first is the David Macaulay exhibit from the Tacoma Art Museum and the second is the Wall o' Coffee from the Burke Museum at the University of Washington.

Finally, I'll finish up with a random statue taken from outside the court building in Tacoma and a picture of everyone's favorite Jersey (who didn't come with us, but the picture was on my camera from before we left.)

Picture Dump (Part Three) to come another day.

Picture Dump (Part One)

I have finally found some time to get the vacation pictures off the camera and edited. Here is the first batch with brief descriptions, beginning with two from the bridal shower. I didn't actually take pictures of the brides or from the shower itself. You'll have to head over to Margot's blog if you want pictures of that.

Here is a picture of Sister and Niece- or Nephew-to-be!

Isn't she adorable? I hadn't seen her since Christmas and couldn't believe how big she's getting (I know she hates hearing that, and I'm sorry. You don't look any bigger than you're supposed to, Sister!)

Cousin Margot's eldest son camped out in one of the upstairs bedrooms during the shower and watched TV. I snuck up and snapped this photo of him and The Boy™ before The Boy™ left with the grooms:

Nice, relaxing way to start your vacation, eh?

I took this picture walking under the Glass Bridge in Tacoma. I might have to make it into my new desktop picture.

This picture was taken outside of a bakery in Tacoma. We didn't stop in the bakery, I just liked the bike sitting outside.

These next two pictures were taken at Pike's Place Market. I didn't have the money for teapots or flowers, so took a picture to remember them by instead.

And, of course, the obligatory Space Needle photo. The nice pictures of The Boy™ and I in front of it were taken on our cell phones. Because Verizon sucks, you can't see those.

This is the super-cute picture I took of the two of us outside of the Sci Fi Museum (yes, we're dorks.) If you look closely, you can see the reflection of my hand with the camera in The Boy™'s sunglasses.

The last picture for today is a happy picture of me in the yarn store. Ooo! Yarn! That yarn store was HUGE!

Last Day

We spent our last day of vacation wandering around the University of Washington. The campus is very nice. Some of the buildings are gorgeous, particularly the library which looks (as Silly Punk put it) like the great hall from Harry Potter. Picture of that to come.

We stopped by the yarn store (sock yarn pics later) and the comic book store. Then took the bus back to the hotel. We're resting our achy legs now. Well, my achy legs (and hips and back and feet. I should have brought better sneakers to walk around in.)

We'll pack up tonight and catch the early busy tomorrow back to the airport. Somehow, we leave at 11:55 tomorrow afternoon and a 5 hour flight and an hour and a half flight later, we will land in Rochester at 9:50pm. Darn time zones. We'll stay the night at my Sister's and then go back to PA on Saturday sometime.

This vacation has been fun and short, but I'm ready to go home and sleep in my own bed.

This Time in Seattle

Today we took the bus into Seattle.

It was awesome.

We went to the Public Library.

Which is the awesomest library I have ever been in ever. I could live in that library forever and be perfectly happy. That library puts all other libraries I have ever been in to whining, sniveling shame.

Then we went to Pike Place Market, which is this really cool sort of outdoor farmer's market kind of thing. We got some souvenirs then went across the street to a little Mediterranean place for lunch.

We hiked across town (at least it felt like across town to me) to the Science Fiction Museum and Experience Music Project, which were also cool in a dorky kind of way.

A few blocks away, we posed for some pictures in front of the Space Needle (you get better pictures from a few blocks away -- you can yourself and the entire Space Needle in the picture that way.) Then we caught the bus back to Tacoma.

We sat in the sauna at the hotel for a while, and now we are relaxing in the room, munching on bagels and watching Food Network. We're in for the night and being lazy, as one must do while on vacation. Tomorrow, we'll take another bus to Seattle, this time to the University district to check out the University of Washington. Snazzy Joe says there is a yarn store in the vicinity that I am going to try to find.

Tuesday, cont ....

3:30pm, Tacoma time.

Back at the hotel for some rest before meeting Snazzy and Smalltown for dinner.

We had a nice day. The sun is out in Tacoma, even if it is still a little chilly. But it's only March, what do we expect?

The Boy™ and I took advantage of the free light rail today and explored a little of downtown Tacoma. We walked across the Glass Bridge (very cool) and looked at some of the (free) outside exhibits of the Glass Museum (pictures of these to come.) The museum itself is closed on Tuesdays, however, so we didn't go in. We did go into the gift shop, but didn't buy anything. The Boy™ fell in love with these interesting glass fortune cookies, but they were very expensive. If we don't buy anything else on this trip and have souvenir money leftover, we might go back before we leave and get one.

The Art Museum was open, however, so we went there instead. Right now, they have the David Macaulay exhibit up. He is famous for the book The Way Things Work. It was a great exhibit.

After that, we just wandered around downtown a bit. We walked through the theatre district, window shopped a little, then came back to the hotel. I'm catching up on some internet things now while The Boy™ takes a nap. I might lay down and close my eyes for a little while myself.

Tacoma, Day 2

It's only 9:15am as I write this and we haven't accomplished very much yet today, but I thought I'd stop by and blog about last night before I forget to do it.

We met up with Snazzy and some of his friends yesterday evening and went to a place called Red Hots for beer, hot dogs and pin ball. The hot dogs were good (The Boy™ and I got veggie dogs, those were good too,) I assume the beer was good (I had water, flying makes me a bit dehydrated,) and the pinball was less than stellar, but the guys had fun. All in all, we had a really good time. Snazzy is awesome and his friends are funny.

We crashed when we got back to the hotel. We are both pretty beat. We enjoyed the continental breakfast this morning -- impressive -- and are being lazy in the room right now before we decide what we do with our day. It will probably be a pretty low key kind of day. Today is our recovery day. We're just going to take it easy and relax.

We're on Vacation!

We have arrived, safe and sound, in Tacoma. The flights were uneventful. Snazzy kindly gave us instructions on which bus to take from the airport and met us at the bus stop to guide us to our hotel. So we're checked in and relaxing right now. We will soon meet up with Snazzy for dinner. Well, soon being a relative term.

I'm a little messed up with all the time changes happening. My body thinks it's 6:30 in the evening, but the clock says it's only 3:30. I'm ready for a light dinner, some mindless TV and bed, but there's still a lot of daytime left.

It was gorgeous when we left PA on Saturday - sunny and warm. Somehow, the weather in WA didn't get the notice that we were coming and were on vacation. It's cold and snowy here right now. I'm hoping it clears up and the week is at least sunny for us, if not warm.

The hotel is nice. Nothing too expensive or fancy. There's a nice little couch in the room, which is a plus. We also have a mini 'fridge and a microwave. I think we'll be seeking out a store tomorrow to pick up some food so we can minimize the eating out.

I'll be taking as many pictures as I can, but unfortunately can't post any until we get back, as I left the cable to hook the camera up to the computer at home. I'll blog when I can, though.

Procrastinating

I'm not.

Really.

I'm not procrastinating.

I'm resting.

Which is exactly what the doctor told me to do.

It's 8pm anyway. Who does anything at 8 in the evening? Anything that I have to do can wait until morning.

Here. I'll make a list. Will that make you happy? I'll make a list of the things I have to do before Saturday (meaning all the things I have to do tomorrow before I go to work at 4.) That way, I can refer to it when I'm done resting.

1. Get a haircut (okay, that's not a big deal, it probably doesn't need to be first on the list. The world won't end if I don't get a hair cut before we leave for Tacoma.)
2. Pack
3. Go to the bank and get cash (that doesn't even need to be done before we leave. We can stop at the ATM in Rochester just as easily as we can stop at the ATM here.)
4. Do the dishes
5. Clean the bathroom

.... That's it? That's it! Only five things. The list isn't really that long. See, you're all worried about nothing. There really isn't that much to do.

Now relax.

Rest.

Doctor's orders.

Lionish

March has certainly rushed in like the Lion is it supposed to be. While we haven't gotten any of the snow that has coated the East Coast (not a flake,) the temps here have dropped far below comfortable levels.

Yeah, okay, so comfortable levels for me is in the 50s but we haven't seen them in a while. It got back down into the single digits this morning with a wind chill advisory until about 10am (what exactly is the point of a wind chill advisory, anyway?)

This past week has been hectic for me. Theatre and dance performances at work with very little (for me) rehearsal or preparation. It brought a whole new meaning to the phrase winging it. But it went well and the audiences, as far as I know, were happy. Which is all that really matters in the end.

I'm still trying to fight off this awful sinus infection. I went into the doctor today who said I am, in fact, getting better and I'd be getting better faster if I would slow down and give myself a chance to rest. He scolded me for working so much over the weekend instead of resting. Some things can't be helped though.

So, the plan for the rest of the week is to rest. And prepare to go to Tacoma next week!

But mostly rest.

Really.
